Tim James has been chosen by Party Members as the Liberal candidate for the Willoughby by-election.
Senior executive and industry leader Tim James said he will be a strong advocate for the Willoughby community and local businesses, to ensure that they get the infrastructure, services and support that is needed to recover and rebuild.
“For almost two decades Willoughby has had an exceptional local representative in Gladys, and I will seek to continue her work,” Mr James said. “I will be particularly focused on ensuring that our roads and infrastructure are able to serve the needs of this community, and we help preserve and enhance our local public space.”
Premier Dominic Perrottet said that Tim James will do a great job representing the local community.
“The Willoughby community needs a representative with Tim’s experience, drive and determination to support the local recovery, and only Tim will be able to continue Gladys’ record of delivery for the community,” Mr Perrottet said.
“I’ve known Tim for many years through his extensive community work, and years of advocacy on behalf of the local community. Tim’s great work in industry advocacy, public policy and the community sector will make him an excellent Member of Parliament, who will be ready to deliver for this community from day one.”
“If elected, I will be focusing all of my efforts on delivering for the local community, and advocating for their needs in Government,” said Mr James. “I am very conscious of the big shoes I will be stepping into - Gladys was an outstanding local Member, and provided exceptional leadership for Willoughby and our state.”
“With the Omicron variant still impacting on lives and businesses across our community, we need stable and experienced leadership to continue Gladys’ work and ensure that we manage the health aspects of the pandemic and deliver the economic recovery.”
Tim is married to Nikki and they have two daughters, Chloe and Madeleine with a son on the way. He has an MBA, degrees in Business and Law, as well as post-graduate qualifications from Chartered Secretaries Australia, the Financial Services Institute of Australia and the AICD.
Tim has a strong blend of private and public sector experience, he is the Executive General Manager at the Menzies Research Centre and former CEO of the national medicines peak body, and has worked at KPMG, law firm Allens, and served as an in-house counsel and strategic policy manager for Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson. He has also worked in the electorate offices of Joe Hockey and John Howard, and served as the Chief of Staff to Minister Roberts in the O’Farrell Government.
Tim’s commitment to the community sector has seen him serve as a statutory director of the Harbour Trust, and volunteer director at Life Education for almost a decade. As part of the Artarmon Progress Association leadership team, he helped the community campaign for the Artarmon library, improved resident safety, and fought for the preservation of the Artarmon Bowling Club.
