Latest ABS Labor Force data for January shows NSW has retained its position as the state with the lowest unemployment rate of any state for 32 consecutive months, 0.6 per cent lower than the rest of Australia.
At 5.1 per cent, the NSW unemployment rate has also remained equal to or below the national rate for 50 consecutive months, with the latest data showing that since the Liberals & Nationals were re-elected in 2015:
- NSW has added more than 246,000 jobs, far more than the Liberals & Nationals’ election commitment of 150,000 new jobs;
- women accounted for more than 152,000 of the jobs added in that time;
- almost 70 per cent of the new jobs added in NSW have been full-time positions, compared to just 38 per cent in the rest of Australia.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said the results showed the Government’s economic vision was delivering jobs and opportunity for the people of NSW.
“The data is clear: NSW remains the best state for employment in Australia, and that means more opportunity and greater prosperity for the hardworking men and women of our state,” Mr Perrottet said.
“When we came to government we said our plan for economic growth would create 150,000 more jobs for the people of NSW, and less than three years on, the number of jobs added for women alone has exceeded that target.
“These numbers show the real difference between a Liberals & Nationals Government and the NSW Labor opposition – while unemployment was above the national average under Labor, today it is the lowest in the nation.”
