Liberals will help deliver more housing for Eden-Monaro

Liberal candidate for Eden-Monaro, Jo van der Plaat, welcomed Coalition policy to invest $1.5 billion in shovel-ready regional and rural infrastructure, unlocking the delivery of additional homes across our community.

Ms van der Plaat said the Liberal Party is continuing to put forward practical, strategic policies that will help solve the current housing crisis, with the $5 billion Housing Infrastructure Programme helping more Australians into their own homes and empowering Councils to drive housing growth.

The Programme will unlock up to half a million new homes by funding essential infrastructure like water, power, sewerage and access roads at housing development sites.

“Housing supply and affordability continues to be a top three issue in Eden-Monaro. With 30 per cent of the Coalition’s $5 billion Housing Infrastructure Programme going into regions like Eden-Monaro, we will see more housing being able to be delivered across the electorate.”

“This means partnering with the five Councils across Eden-Monaro, developers and our communities, to ensure they share competitively in the $1.5 billion going to the regions. This opportunity will bolster regional economic growth, drive housing supply, and benefit local trades.”

“A Liberal government will also help by freezing the red tape and compliance that increases the burden for new housing projects. It will bring down the end cost for those out there who I know are struggling to get into their first home.”

“Under the Albanese Labor Government we’ve had continuing interest rate and rent rises, putting the aspiration of home ownership out of reach for so many,” said Ms van der Plaat. “With Labor overseeing the lowest building approvals in more than a decade, a Liberal government has created practical policy which will kickstart growth and increase the housing supply by investing in much-needed enabling infrastructure.”

“The people in Eden-Monaro know that the Liberals are focused on key issues that affect them most, like housing and fighting inflation. I will continue campaigning for better housing supply and affordability, and work with local councils to help get more people across Eden-Monaro into the housing market,” concluded Ms van der Plaat.
