Liberal Candidate for Eden-Monaro, Jo van der Plaat, has today announced that an elected Liberal Government will invest $170,000 to upgrade David Campese Oval.

Campese Oval is home to Queanbeyan Whites Rugby Club, a club that will this year celebrate 70 years in ACT rugby competition.

The $170,000 investment will fund new secure fencing to enclose Campese Oval.

Into the future, clubs wishing to continue playing in their respective State and Territory competitions will be required to have enclosed playing fields.

“The club deserves this six-figure investment to carry on its growth and ensure a bright future for both its players and fans,” said Jo.

Ms van der Plaat praised the work of Queanbeyan Whites Rugby in the local community.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the Queanbeyan Whites over the past few months," she said.

“Their commitment to growing their junior club and building out their women’s team really embodies what it means to be invested in your players.

“As a proud rugby mum, with a daughter currently playing Rugby 7s, it’s a real joy to be associated with a club that genuinely cares for their players both mentally and physically.

“And I think the work they have been doing to encourage more youngsters to play rugby is testament to the importance they place on being involved in the local community.

“If I am elected your Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, I’ll continue to listen to community and sporting groups and fight for further investment."

Shadow Sports Minister Anne Ruston said that delivering long-term sporting infrastructure across our local communities is vital.

“The Liberals will invest in important local projects like the enclosure of Campese Oval because we recognise and support the important role that rural sporting clubs like the Queanbeyan Whites play in the community,” said Ms Ruston.

“Encouraging Australians of all ages to get out there and participate in sport is a great way to improve both mental and physical health and boost wellbeing."
