An elected Dutton Liberal Government has committed $3 million to upgrade facilities at the Hanging Rock Sporting Complex – home of the Batemans Bay Seahawks Australian Football Club.
Liberal candidate for Gilmore, Andrew Constance, said the facilities at Hanging Rock need urgent upgrades, with just two change rooms serving dozens of male and female Seahawks teams, across AFL South Coast and Canberra competitions.
“This is an important community club and their membership growth is indicative of their success in building participation among women at junior and senior levels,” Mr Constance said.
“The Club’s focus on creating a fun and family-friendly environment for players and spectators, has woven this Club into the fabric of the Batemans Bay community and today’s commitment will see this community get the sporting facilities it deserves.”
Batemans Bay Seahawks President, Danny White, said the Club is excited about the Liberals’ funding commitment.
“This funding would be a game-changer for our Club,” said Mr White.
“We appreciate Andrew Constance and the Liberals’ recognition of the Seahawks' role in our community and their commitment to investing in grassroots sport here at Hanging Rock.”
Senator Andrew Bragg said this commitment would not have been possible without the advocacy of Andrew Constance and the Batemans Bay Seahawks.
“Andrew Constance has demonstrated his commitment to serving the South Coast for more than two decades and today’s commitment is just the latest example of his tireless efforts to give Batemans Bay locals the sporting facilities that they need and deserve,” Senator Bragg said.
“Our commitment to upgrade Hanging Rock is just one way that we will work to get the South Coast and Australia back on track.”
