Canterbury-Bankstown Tennis Association has been awarded a Federal grant of $360, 000 under Round 3 of the Federal Government’s Community Infrastructure Grants program.
The Association will use the funding to construct two additional multi-purpose courts at their facility which is located just off Marco Avenue in Panania. These new courts will not only be used by tennis players, but will also be used for other sports, such as futsal and hockey.
In addition to the new courts, existing facilities will also be upgraded with the construction of new ramps and pathways, to improve the accessibility of the complex for all sportspeople.
David Coleman, the Federal Member for Banks, has welcomed news of this funding, noting the importance of ensuring local facilities are accessible and of a good standard.
“This funding boost is great news for our community,” Mr Coleman said. “These are really important upgrades, which will enable more people in our community to play sports such as tennis thanks to new facilities.”
“The strong economic management of the Coalition Government means upgrades like these can be delivered across our region.”
President of Canterbury-Bankstown Tennis Association, Mr Roger Pitt, has spoken of the significance of this investment for the local community.
“This funding will really make a difference in helping us to expand our operations to provide other sports such as table tennis and soccer to the local community,” Mr Pitt said.
“We hope that this funding will help us reach out and engage with more members of the community,” Mr Pitt said. “We look forward to starting work on this project.”
Senior Vice President of the Association, Mr Paul Burgess, has also welcomed the funding, thanking the Federal Government for its assistance.
