Long-serving local MP and NSW Cabinet Minister Andrew Constance has been endorsed as the Liberal candidate for the federal seat of Gilmore.
In doing so he reaffirmed his commitment to strong positive community leadership for the people of the Gilmore electorate. “Our community leads Australia in terms of strength and compassion.
We have seen and lived through the largest wildfires in world history and faced a global pandemic everyday now for two years.
“Throughout this we have been unified in survival and recovery and we understand the enormous benefits of working together in a bipartisan and caring way.
“From our community leaders to those who get by every day without seeking recognition or gratitude, there is so much to be said for positive community leadership that is about caring and fighting for local people.
“My intention is to continue to work alongside our local community to get great outcomes. I won’t take a backward step.
“I am standing because I believe there is so much to do in the areas of trauma response and well-being following natural disasters and in the specialised area of National resilience to such events. Mr Constance, aged 48 and father of a teenage daughter, has been the State Member for Bega for close to 19-years.
He has served as the State’s Treasurer and in Cabinet posts such as Disability Services, Ageing, Finance and services, Industrial relations, Roads Transport and Infrastructure. He has been behind some of the biggest infrastructure projects nationally and regionally including the duplication of the Princes Highway.
This includes projects such as the Albion Park bypass, Berry to Bomaderry duplication, Nowra Bridge, Batemans Bay Bridge, Batemans Bay South Link road and Nelligen Bridge.
Mr Constance said that the opportunity to provide greater support for South Coast communities was an important factor in his decision to run for the Seat of Gilmore.
“I have been behind some of the most significant infrastructure delivery in the region and I want to continue to deliver by focussing on projects such as the bypass at Nowra, Milton Ulladulla and Moruya, ongoing Highway upgrades, the level 4 Eurobodalla Regional Hospital and Jindelara Cottage Respite Home at Ulladulla.
Mr Constance said he wants to work alongside South Coast industry leaders with a focus on small business, tourism, commercial fishing, agriculture and defence industries development.
