In the 2018 State Executive elections, the Hon Philip Ruddock has been elected as the President of
the Division.
Philip is a long-standing member of the Liberal Party, having first served on the Division’s State
Executive as Young Liberal President in 1971. The former minister and Attorney General in the
Howard Government was the second longest-serving federal parliamentarian since Federation.
Since retiring from Federal politics in 2016, Philip has continued his commitment to public service,
including his election as the Mayor of Hornsby last year.
The Hon Greg Smith SC and Kent Johns have been elected as Urban Vice Presidents, and Hollie
Hughes as Country Vice President.
The NSW Liberal State Director, Chris Stone, congratulated those elected and thanked all Members
who had put themselves forward.
“The high calibre of nominees shows the wide range of expertise and experiences of our Members.”
The State Director also expressed his thanks to the Acting President, Kent Johns, who stepped in to
help navigate the State Party over the previous year and a half.
“During Kent’s period as Acting President, the Division successfully fought local government
elections and a number of important by-elections. Along with the outgoing State Executive, Kent
provided invaluable support to the Division’s professional staff.”
The new executive will now put all of their focus into preparations for the forthcoming federal and
state elections. Only with the re-election of Liberal Governments will the people of NSW and
Australia continue to prosper and enjoy a strong and growing economy with more jobs,
infrastructure and opportunities.
